Scale
  • 1 large sweet onion
  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • ½ teaspoon ground cumin
  • ½ teaspoon dried thyme
  • ½ teaspoon dried oregano
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup water
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Oil in a spray bottle

Instructions

  1. Prepare the onion by cutting off the top and peeling it.
  2. Make deep cuts around the onion to create petals without severing the root.
  3. Let the onion sit for five minutes to relax the petals.
  4. Whisk together flour and spices in one bowl; mix eggs, milk, and water in another.
  5. Coat the onion in the flour mixture, dip into egg mixture, then re-coat with flour.
  6. Chill the coated onion while preheating the air fryer to 350°F (175°C).
  7. Spray the onion generously with oil and place it in the air fryer basket.
  8. Cook for approximately 25 minutes, spraying oil as needed to achieve crispiness.
